THE ART OF TRAINING #MondayInspiration

| Gabriel Olatunji

It doesn’t matter if you think you are too old, you have no money or you won’t ever be a success. You only need one opportunity. The reason why people fail in life is not because opportunities don’t show up but because they fail to prepare for opportunities. Your opportunities will eventually come but will you have been trained enough to manage that billion dollar project?

Train before Opportunity

“The best time to teach a president is before he becomes the president” – That is one of the truest statement I have heard in my life. You can apply that statement to every area of leadership.  Here are some examples; the best time to train a coach is before he gets hired by a football club, the best time to train a pastor is before he found a church, the best time to train a CEO is before assuming the position, and the best time to train a leader is before he occupies a position. You can’t become a flight captain without attending the school of Aviation.

Life has opportunities for you but when you fail to train you lose out on the opportunities.

What you Don’t Know

Those who train usually go farther than those who don’t. Training gives you a leverage, shapes you into a better you but when you fail to train you remain the same. School is a form of training but school do not truly enlighten, education does. Training is education! I said in one of my speeches that, ‘If you are not skillful, you won’t be useful’. The reason why someone else got hired over you is because of what they know that you don’t. It’s time to go back to school, and by that I don’t mean the conventional school.

Reading is Training

Reading is supposed to put you on the frequency of the author. It’s suppose to make you reason at the same level the author is reasoning. A book is an opportunity to resolve life issues the way the author would have done; this is one of the reasons why you should watch what you read because you will eventually become what you read. When you read all the sexy and romantic magazines, sex won’t be far from your mind and life. When you read about business you will most likely start a business – it’s a rule of life.

Getting Picked Always

If we both apply for a job or contract and you prove to be more qualified than I am, not necessarily by academic standard but by your knowledge of the job; you are likely to get hired than I do. Check your industry (ministry, business, corporate, entertainment etc) and you will discover that those who are ahead usually have better knowledge and understanding of the craft more than the others.

Apply for a three weeks course, attend that seminar, be at every conference that is related to your industry and let those who know more than you in the industry train you.

If you want to get picked all the time before anybody else, your level of training counts.
