LAGOS- Pastor Sam Adeyemi, Senior Pastor Daystar Christian Centre has called for a change in Nigeria’s ideology. Speaking today in a press conference ahead of Daystar’s Excellence in Leadership conference next week, pastor sam said every nation runs on an ideology and it is clear that the ideology on which the nation currently runs was not conceived by Nigerians.
He said about a 100 years ago when Nigeria was amalgamated, the colonial masters did so with the intention of taking the raw materials and other essentials from the country and the citizens were not part of the idea.
Stressing the thought further, Pastor Sam, who is well known as a dynamic pastor, a popular author and life coach,established that the ideology of any nation is the common vision of a nation and principles that guides its citizenry.
Pastor Sam shedding light on the theme of this year’s Excellence in Leadership Conference, ‘Corruption-Free Leadership…Key to National and Personal Success’, he explained that Nigeria was about to clock a 100 years in existence (1914 – 2014)and there is no better time to discuss what the nation should be going forward, than now.
“When we began to advertise our conference, people asked us to be careful as they thought we might be using the opportunity to bash the government. But that’s not it”
Pastor Adeyemi said that most of what Nigerians accuse the government of, the citizens do at various levels. He said that the Nigerian issue with leadership was a cultural definition which sees leaders as the one at the top whereas we are all leaders.
“We often say the government but the government is us.”
He said this year the conference will feature seasoned people in various sectors of society to discuss the issue.
“Corruption is more than just giving a bribe. We’ve checked the dictionary and it tells us that anyone that does anything dishonest is corrupt. We want to take on this issue and help people see that corruption is more than what they think, it is more than people think. And the solution is not as simple as people think.”
Pastor Sam also described the Excellence in Leadership Conference as an event where all those who have passed through the Daystar Leadership Academy gather to refresh their minds on what they had been taught at the school.
The end goal of Daystar Leadership Academy, and Excellence in Leadership Conference is to transform Nigeria and reshape the ideology by transforming the minds of attendees.
So far the leadership academy, DLA, has graduated 23,000 people in its ten years of existence. While that might not seem like a lot in relation to Nigeria’s 160 million, Pastor Sam Adeyemi was quick to point out that the church was in the transformation process for the long haul.
“We are not in a hurry! We will be here 20yrs, 30yrs, 40yrs and so on from now…..Nigeria will be transformed eventually, it might take us a long time but we will get there.”
The Excellence in Leadership Conference begins next Wednesday at the Daystar Main Auditorium, Plot A3C Ikosi Road, Oregun, Ikeja Lagos.
Headline speakers for the conference include Paul Enenche, Fela Durotoye, and host Pastors Sam and Nike Adeyemi. There will also be specialized sessions which will have speakers such as, Oby Ezekwesili, Japheth Omojuwa, Joke Silva and others.
