Abdul-afeez Hassan: Vision Levels of Leadership

“To have sight without vision is worse than being born blind’… Helen Keller

Vision is the lead a leader has. Once he losses this lead and event start to force his hand, he is leader in name only, he is not leading and he is only reacting to immediate event. Vision is the energy behind every effort and force that pushes through all the problems. With vision the leader is on a mission and a contagious spirit is felt among the crowd until others begin to rise alongside the leader.

With vision long hours of labor are given gladly to accomplish the goal, individual rights are set aside, time flies, moral soars upward, heroic stories are told, commitment becomes the watchword all because the leader has a vision.

Without vision energy ebbs low, deadlines are missed, personal agenda begin to surface, production falls and people scatter.

All great leaders possess two things: they know where they are going and they are able to persuade others to follow. Leaders can never take their people farther than they have traveled, like leader, like people.

BRIDGE 1

Think about how nice and refreshing it is to taste a cold COKE. Hundreds of millions of people around the world have enjoyed this experience, thanks to the VISION of Robert Woodruff. During his tenure as the president of Coca Cola (1923-1955), Woodruff declared ‘’we will see that every man gets a bottle of Coca Cola at a cost of wherever he is and whatever the cost’’.

BRIDGE 2

Kodak, a photography company went digital in the 80’s and became a phenomenal success with a turnover of $20 billion. However, selling a huge part of her reorganization over to a new management system as focus was lost leading to their bankruptcy.

"Everybody is a Leader, but not everyone can Lead"

FOUR VISION LEVELS OF LEADERS

  1. Some leaders never see it (THEY ARE WANDERERS/VAGABOND.

  2. Some leaders see it but never pursue it on their own (THEY ARE FOLLOWERS).

  3. Some leaders see it and pursue it (THEY ARE ACHIEVERS).

  4. Some leaders see it, pursue it and help others to see it (THEY ARE LEADERS).
