How To Become The Most Sought After In Your Line Of Business

sought after

Needless to say, the primary reason people go into business is to make money. No one goes into a business with the aim of losing all his capital and then folding up the company.
Now, you are in business to meet a need.

There are several people out there who do need your products or services but definitely you are not the only one doing that particular business. There are several other people doing that same business as you. Just as they say, as an idea is occurring to you, the same idea is also occurring to several other people elsewhere - even close to you.

So, for you to make constant money and remain in business or rather for you to always have patronage, you must be the best or one of the best in your field.

We sat down to talk to Agnes Etuk, CEO of  Adicakes and Events, an innovative catering and event management outfit. Here she speaks on how one can become the most sought after in his or her line of business:

There are only so many hours in the day, and when you’re trying to devote as much time as possible working in your business, it can be hard to find time to work on your business. And one of the most important parts of working on your business is staying on top of changes and trends in your industry

Here’s what I recommend you do to be the most sought after in your line of business:

Network And Exchange With Others In The Industry
Talk to your peers, and discuss the latest news and ideas with each other. How are others incorporating the latest methods into their businesses? What’s working for them, and what can be ignored as a passing fad?

Invest In Professional Development
Take a class! Depending on what business you’re in, there are many online or in-person workshops, classes, or events that exist to keep you in the loop. Learning a new skill and applying it to your business is one of the most exciting parts of being your own boss.

Who wants to keep doing things the same way over and over again? Try out new methods, it’s exciting.
Personally I attend a lot of programs relating to my field. That is why I am always on top my industry.

Read Industry Publications, But Only The Best Ones
There is a lot of information out there, and trying to keep up with it all is exhausting. I recommend focusing on 3-4 industry publications, max. Mix news with editorial – it’s important to hear about the latest greatest new thing, but it’s just as important to hear a trusted leader’s interpretation of it.

I read a mix of online sources for breaking news, and then traditional print media (books and magazines) for in-depth editorial and analysis of that news.

Know What The Core Of Your Business Is – The Part That Doesn’t Change
Whatever your business is, at its heart is something that doesn’t change. It’s what makes you unique and valuable, and it’s what keeps your customers coming back. If you’re in retail, you might be selling a different product in the future – but the qualities of the product should be the same (high quality, good value, on trend, etc).

Identify what that core value is in your business, and you won’t be rocked by changes and trends. You can adapt to them, and decide what’s right for you as you move forward. And remember – change can be scary, but it’s also exciting and exhilarating.
