Nobody becomes great alone; you need people to achieve greatness in life. My greatest desire is to see every reader of OLATUNJISPEAKS.com (Africa’s number one inspirational site) become great in their different fields and that is why I am committed to writing one piece a day in 2014 that will inspire, teach you and ultimately make you great; this is coupled with the other writers and featured posts that will come on the blog.
When I was growing up my parents could go out and leave us with the neighbors and they will be sure that we will be well taken care of; we will be well fed and catered for even though our parents were not around. We could go to our neighbor’s house to watch TV, we go to play football every evening and mixed with friends, there were extra-curricular activities that made us relate with as many people as possible but today reverse is the case. Every family lives alone, you can no longer go out and keep your children with the neighbor that lives on the next flat – you don’t even know the name of the person living in the next flat – everybody do their own thing but I have discovered that no matter how many inspiration and knowledge you get, no matter your level of creativity and ‘geniusity’ you can never be great alone. Even Jesus Christ in all of his power had twelve disciples and another fifty disciples; he understood the power of networking and relationships.
If you want to go far, go alone but if you want to go-great go with people! For every Nelson Mandela there are other ‘Mandelas’, for every Bill Gates there are other ‘Gates’, for every Aliko Dangote there are other ‘Dangotes’ and for every Oprah Winfrey there are other ‘Winfreys’ – I mean we see all of these great people and we want to be like them but we fail to realize the quality of people in their network – they have successfully built relationships, they have quality friends and they have protégées as well; they have people who are helping them achieve what we celebrate.
What is the essence of having over 200 people on your Blackberry Messenger (BBM) contact but you only chat with 5 to 10 of them? Don’t you know that when you have a dream to achieve, it is people that will help you achieve it; most of those people are on your BBM contact, Facebook friends, Twitter followers but you have not cultivated a relationship with them yet? If you are serious about greatness this year you must be serious about increasing the number of people you know, the number of people that knows you and the number of phone numbers you can call and you will not have to introduce yourself – this is one of the secrets of great men and you must embrace it this year.
I have also fallen short of the same issue but I am committed to have the phone numbers of at least 70% of my BBM audience and also to have a relationship with them; know them and what they do and also introduce myself and what I do – who knows if my wife has been on my BBM list all these while and I have never said ‘hi’ to her, lol. Who knows if the person who will introduce my next big client is there and I have never cared to relate with them. Let us all make this commitment this year by getting to know more people, share contacts, open up and build quality friendship that will add to your life and help you achieve your vision faster.
