Gabriel Olatunji 'Legend': How to sell yourself or your business and make it popular

As some of you may know already I am presently planning a valentine’s lovers dinner (‘Ololufemi’) for young couples who are serious about their relationships and intends taking it to the altar; it is our own way of creating an atmosphere of fun and excitement that we feel is lacking in most Christian relationships thereby curing the boredom they might have been experiencing; that is besides the point. One of the best RnB musicians I know (although upcoming) will be at that dinner and while we were talking I asked him if he has a business card but his reply signifies that he is still on it; that shocked me.

I wasn’t shocked because he doesn’t have a business card because a lot of people in this country who claim to have businesses don’t have one but I was shocked he doesn’t have a business card because he is an upcoming artiste who has a classic video to one of the best RnB songs I have heard in recent times, his plans is to rule the airways and be put in the same class as Asa and yet this guy does not have one of the simplest means of publicity – business card. You cannot be winking in the dark and expect us to cheer for you; we can’t see you, thus it is impossible for us to applaud you – this goes for every one reading this piece; if you want to sell yourself or business and make it popular you must start with that little means of publicity we call business card.

What do you do? Are you satisfied with the level of success you command at what you do? If your answer is ‘No’ then you must ask yourself another question, am I doing enough to promote what I do to more people? One of the ways to do this is through business cards. For example, if I am an upcoming artiste who has recorded some very good RnB and conscious music, I will look for every opportunity to perform at dinners, corporate events, private clubs and shows – I will go along with my business cards and when I am done performing, my manager or the Ushers will help me insert my business card on every table in the hall – that way more people will get to know my name and have my contact; they won’t hesitate to call me when they have an event that someone like me fits the bill.

Whatever business you do, your business card can sell you. Make as many business card as possible; share it at every occasion where you have offered your service; there is something called ‘pareto principle’ – it states that twenty percent of every effort you make is what will count – that means there is a likelihood that twenty percent of those who got your card will reach out to you for more jobs – this is how to sell yourself or your business and make it popular.

See you tomorrow!
