Gabriel Olatunji 'Legend'
If you are familiar with novels you would have heard of a man called Stephen King; his books have sold over 350 million copies but what many people don’t know is that, his first novel was rejected by publishers for 30 times. Richard Branson who is today the owner of the Virgin empire didn’t do so well in school as he did poorly in tests and never got good marks. Oprah Winfrey has been dubbed the queen of talk-show and one-time richest black woman in the world, but many people do not know that she gave birth to a baby boy who died shortly at age 14. She was abused by her cousin, uncle and family friend before eventually running away from home. Some of the greatest men in the world dropped out of school not because they had a better alternative but because they couldn’t afford school fees.
This is what these men call ‘past’ today; they call it ‘past’ because they have been able to overcome the challenge and move up in the ladder of life. They have gone ahead to take a shot at greatness in our day and the future also looks bright for them also. Here you are still wobbling with a ‘past’ or what I call ‘circumstantial challenges’ (what you are going through today) – it is called ‘past’ my dear. If it is still happening, it will soon be called ‘past’ all the same. Today is the tomorrow we spoke about yesterday; if we allowed our past and present challenge to influence our life negatively, there will never be a testimony of a greater tomorrow.
I have seen men who have gone through issues and challenges in life and still come out tops and I have seen men who have also gone through challenges in life and allowed the challenge to truncate their destiny. The difference between the two men is the choice they made. You can either choose to allow your background put your back on the ground or allow your background spur you to greater achievements in life. Even if you have terminated pregnancies countless times in the past, it doesn’t mean that you will not have great kids as long as you are sorry for your act. Your father, mother, uncle, aunty and your whole family might reed of poverty; it is not an excuse to live like a mediocre. You may never have graduated; it is not enough reason not to have a dream in life. I don’t care how bad your past or present challenge is, you can overcome and make greatness happen.
See you tomorrow!
